Missouri Drew More Tourists Than Ever Before in 2016

If you thought "Missouri" and "tourism" couldn't possibly belong in the same sentence, you might want to stop with your cynicism already.

It turns out a staggering 41.7 million people visited the state in the 2016 fiscal year — an increase of 3.2 percent from the year before, and the biggest total in state history.

That's according to a new release from the office of Governor Jay Nixon, which also crowed that tourism-related spending now brings in $13.1 billion in the 2016 fiscal year.

Per the press release:
Overall, the tourism industry had a $16.5 billion economic impact on Missouri in FY16, up from $15.9 billion in the previous fiscal year. During Gov. Nixon’s administration, tourism’s total economic impact in Missouri has increased by 34 percent.…
