Clayton-based rental car giant Enterprise Rent-A-Car is dropping a discount for National Rifle Association members.
Enterprise along with Alamo and National Rental Car — all owned by Enterprise Holdings Inc. — announced on Thursday evening it would discontinuing the perk on March 26.
The company and others with ties to the powerful gun lobby organization are under pressure from activists after a gunman with an AR-15 rifle slaughtered seventeen students and teachers last week at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.
As business connections between Enterprise and the NRA began to surface, people began tweeting at the rental car company using the #BOYCOTTNRA hashtag. The company responded through its customer service Twitter account.
"All three of our brands have ended the discount for NRA members," Enterprise replied to a Twitter user calling for a boycott.
