U2 won't be playing St. Louis tonight.The band announced this morning that it was canceling its concert scheduled for tonight at the Dome at America's Center. "We cannot risk fans' safety," Live Nation said in a brief statement.
Protests broke out in downtown St. Louis yesterday, and then more dramatically in the Central West End last night, after former St. Louis police officer Jason Stockley was acquitted on charges of first-degree murder.
Police teargassed protesters in both neighborhoods, and several businesses in the Central West End had their storefronts shattered.
The band and Live Nation said this in a joint statement:
We have been informed by the St. Louis Police Department that they are not in a position to provide the standard protection for our audience as would be expected for an event of this size.…
